Y Ty is a beautiful mountainous area in the north of Bat Xat District, Lao Cai Province. There are 16 hamlets with 8 hamlets of the Ha Nhi occupying over 54% of the population here. Y Ty is situated at an altitude of more than 2000m and it is very cold in winter. That is why the Ha Nhi lives in the mud houses walls of which are very thick that protect people against the coldness.

The Ha Nhi lives by the growing wet rice over generations.

The Nha Nhi have been grown wet rice on terraces for many generations. Apart from rice cultivation, raising cattle, bamboo braid, weaving and embroidery are also contributed much to the local economy.

Regarding to the layout of the house of the Ha Nhi, kitchen is built in the bedroom which must be very dark with only two small holes for air and light circulation. At the entrance, it is a siting-room, then bedroom and kitchen with very little light.

The women of Ha Nhi often wear fake hair to make themselves more beautiful and protect from coldness. They use them as a pillow and scarf to keep neck warm.

The Ha Nhi makes clothes on their own, men clothes and women clothes are not the same. The men's clothes are black whereas, those of the women are blue with decoration. Ha Nhi women's hair makeup is very important at parties and important events.

Y Ty is located in the north pole of Bat Xat District - the most remote and difficult area of ​​the district, where it is cold and cloudy almost all year round. The white H'mongs at Y Ty lives by cultivation and breeding. They grow rice, corn and others such as peanut, potato, bean and vegetable. They also harvest cardamom and apples for extra income. Besides, they raise cattle and poultry such as buffalo, cow, pig, chicken ...

The traditional clothing type of the white H'mong women consists of a shirt with a finely decorated rectangular collar, calf shorts, black leggings, multi-layered scarves and an apron. The embroidery is richly decorated: the centerpiece is embroidered with a large rectangular pattern and two small rectangular pieces are located along the sides. The apron-bound waist has a pair of squares that are embroidered in a very sophisticated way by splinters filled with various spiral patterns.

The traditional style on white H'mong costumes are created and inspired by daily familiar objects such as combs, stitches, snails, flowers or melon seeds. Their embroidery techniques are very sophisticated. Although these traditional patterns are not as much popular and colorful as they were, but they are attractive to the watcher, especially because of the extremely sophisticated embroidery.
